TRUST OR DISAPPOINTMENT?

We’ve all been there. “The best laid plans of mice and men…” and all that. An idea
comes to mind and it is mulled over, thought through, refined and, if materials are
needed, inventories are made. The cost is weighed, and everything looks like a go.

Then something happens that stops everything in its tracks. How do we react?

My husband and I were buying a truck and while he went to do the paperwork, I sat with the salesman and chatted. He was a young man, talking about his high school and college football years.

Our family has been camping at a national park every summer for the past 30 years. When our daughter was 6-11 years old, there was a daily Ranger program of fun nature classes for kids in which she was eager to participate.

Have you ever read something that seemed so incredulous, it couldn’t be right? Last month, I opened our utility bill (water, sewer, garbage, electricity combined) and said, “WHAT??? That can’t be right!” No way could we have a bill of $10,178.87.

Do you remember your first love?  That person who first stirred your heartstrings and with whom you wanted to spend every waking moment?

There was a joke when I was growing up that went something like this: “What’s are a young man’s famous last words?” (“I dunno.”) “Hey, y’all, watch this!”

We’ve joined the ranks of the senior citizens who meet five days a week for breakfast. They are called the Wrinkle Club…

It has been a week since we gathered at the Embassy Suites in Greenville, SC. We heard some really great teaching on how we belong at the table with Jesus. The music was wonderful, the venue was nice, the food was delicious. We hugged, we cried, we laughed, we rejoiced.

“Remember the good old days…” “I remember when…” “We used to be able to…”

The mother was remembering the time when her toddler had learned to say the blessing.  Company had come, the little girl was seated in her highchair, and they asked if she would like to do the honors. 

Did you ever notice that sometimes when you get an idea to do something, it morphs into quite a project?  We’re in the midst of that at our house.

Decorations surround us—in stores, on the streets, and in our homes. They create an atmosphere of anticipation of something wonderful that is about to come!

Everywhere we look, we see the change of the seasons.

The one thing you notice when you go to a high school reunion is that there are a lot of old people there!

There are two kinds of people in this world, givers and takers. In the same way, there are two kinds of people in this world, servants and served.

Paul Harvey used to end the “60 Minutes” broadcast each week with a fascinating background story to something most of us knew almost nothing about.  We often thought we already knew!  He always ended with, “And now…you know…the rest of the story.”  I can still hear it in my memory!

He was absolutely pitiful! We should have taken a picture, but I’ll just have to describe him for you.

I can still remember the day I got lost. I was seven years old and we’d just moved to Germany, to the Army post that was home for nearly three years.

I’m a quilter. Most of the quilters I know are very deliberate in selecting their pattern and fabrics. It has to be 100% cotton so that it will stretch and draw up evenly—other than that, it is all personal preference, generally with the décor or a person in mind.

This will be a different kind of blog than you’re used to reading in our newsletter, but it seemed appropriate to share with you the goodness of God! It’s been a difficult two years, since COVID hit, but God remains faithful and has been blessing “behind the scenes.”
